im anti slavery,i think its 100%WRONG in any shape or form, but to see hand wringing politicians apologising for the actions of people 200 yrs ago makes me cringe.how can people of today be blamed?

slave trade still exits today. Its called Slave wage or sweat shops. These people basically work for the money they already spent putting them in a vicous circle of poverty. No luxuries for them. Just look at Walmart. Always low prices because everything is made in other countries so cheap. What does the tag on your shirt say? made in China? made in Mexico? This country avoids making anything in the U.S. because they pay the worker a fair wage. Even our own patriotic flag is made in another country. Not that I care for a brainwashing flag, but im trying to get my point across. No matter who you vote for... democrat, republican we still live in a capitalistic society.

I don't see it as hand wringing.

The actions of politicians 200 years ago affected the future generations of people of colour - the people of today.

Also affected are the attitudes towards people of colour by whites, i.e., KKK, the white power skin head types and anyone who descriminates against people of colour. They have all been shaped by the past.

Programmes such as affirmative action, are sort of bandaides to help people of colour catch up to what they were denied up until the 1960's or so.

Think of where you would be if your grandfather was not permitted to vote, could not read and was told that he was worth less than a good dog his whole life. THis filters down to the next generation and so on.

Whites today may not be directly responsible for actions of 200 years ago, but all nations involved in slavery or wiping out other cultures (North/South American native people) are responsible for helping those that were affected by those actions.

Got it?

In my humble opinion I do not think people today can be blamed at all. I think that we should now all move forward and not dwell in the passed as in this day and age there are so many problems in the world that we should all work together to make it a better place.
