Do I have any kind of a leg to stand on? I told him when I brought the car to him that I was going to sell it and I'd like to find out what the noise was before I did. He ended up rebuilding the rear, replacing the universal joints, replacing a brake drum and the wheel bearings and a bunch of other stuff, all without consulting me. And the noise is still there!! He's a good mechanic and he probably did all of the work, but $925.00!?!

Did you tell him you wanted to be called before he did anything to fix the car??? I never allow anyone to touch my car before they give me an estimate. You could go to the Better Business Bureau and file a report. They are very good. But without knowing the whole story here, sounds like you allowed yourself to be taken advantage of .

If he did all that work without checking with you first, he is not a "good" mechanic. A good mechanic will have you sign an authorization form first, before doing any extensive work on a car. If you didn't sign anything, you had the right to withhold payment. If you didn't do that, I think you have grounds to take the situation to small claims court.

O.K. Did you sign a work order? If not you need to contact your state attorney General,Who is in charge of consumer rip offs. You didn't say what state you are in, as all states are different,If you signed the work order, Does it state that you will O.K. any work on your car or did it say what your complaint and problems are and to look for and give you a call with an estimate for the work that needs done? I am very familiar with this and can tell you more but we need to know the answers to what I asked you.! I sure can tell you how Texas would handle this. The att;GENERAL will let you know how to proceed.

Well, you could up the price of the car to include the new parts, but I would at least ask him why he did that without your permission. AND of course, ask him why the noise is still there?
If he acts dumb or stupid, report him to the Better Business Bureau.

by law, he was suppose to fix the repair that was authorize by you. if the same noise is still there, he did not fix the problem that you bought your vehicle into the shop. he have to reimburse you. make sure you have the paper or invoice stating the problem that you are complaining and do not sign for any repair that you did not authorize.. talk to his manager and try to solve the issue. otherwise , take them to court.

If you have a bill, read the fine print and see if it says anything about you giving consent for the repair, if it was not implied then you can take him to small claims court.

not unless you got it in writing, with his signature.yea i know, thats alot of money.now you know, why i dont go to them crooks.its best to just get a small time mech.,he will do just a good of job and wont charge you a arm and leg.its just like going to the dr.,the dr.cant do anything to you unless you sign a paper stating for him to operate, same goes for a mech.unless you sign a paper saying he can go ahead and fix it them all you can do is get hold of your state attorney office and tell them.
