My brother got mad and killed my dog. He was fed up with dog pooping on the floor and not staying in the yard so he got his rifle and shot him in the head. He has anger issues and he took it out on a defenseless animal. I believe he belongs in jail for what he did but my family does not agree. I went to the police and filed a report with animal control.I guess I just want to know how others view this, if what I did was the right thing. I am very upset about this, I love my brother but I think he needs help, and I don't know what else to do. He also admitted to killing our previous dog by kicking it to death. We just thought he died of natural causes. Please help and please no rude comments. Thanks

Yes, you did do the right thing.
You love your brother, and you are doing the best thing to get him the help he needs. It is likely that his anger will only get worse if he doesn't get help. Hopefully he will be referred to someone who can assess why he is so angry and offer him help, advice and support so he can let go of this problem.
It must be very hard on you, please don't feel guilty though, there is nothing that you could of done, and you've done the best thing for everyone by going to the police.
Your parents and the rest of your family are likely to be very upset about this, and may want to protect your brother even though what he did was wrong. This doesn't mean they think you were wrong for reporting it - they probably just want to keep their family together and so are ignoring the problem. This isn't the way to deal with it though. Now things are out in the open, things should start moving and your brother will be able to get help.
I'm very sorry for your loss xx
