I want to open an NRE/NRI account, I have never lived in India. How do I go about it?And which bank asks the least amount of information, and opens the account very quickly?

Thanks, RJ

Look at the logistic/practical side of it too... firstly make sure that the place in india you're going to has a branch of that bank... citibank for instance doesnt have branches all over india... hdfc and icici do...
icici has good options, free money transfer, fast processing etc. i'm not too sure about hdfc, i've heard good and bad comments on their service (for example money transfer takes quite a long time)
hsbc has a high service charge for transfers... on a personal note i would suggest icici - that's what i use and it's been awesome so far... good customer service, atms and branches everywhere in india, no hassles, no egoistic staff... all in all, a good deal
