It delays the transmission from shifting to a higher gear. Say the car normally shifts from second to third gear at 2500RPM, it may delay shifting from second to third when the engine reaches 3000 RPM.

You will feel a slight boost in power, but also typically a drop in gas mileage.

These guys are right. I just wanted to add that the Power button is a waste. I had the same button in an old 1991 Laser, and it does just as they have said. It gives the illusion of more power by altering the shift points in normal driving speeds. If you put your foot to the floor in either mode, the vehicle accelerates the same way. Therefore, the button is a waste. I'd recommend driving with the button off at all times. Pressing it doesn't give you any more power. If you need more power, just push on the gas pedal a bit harder.

These guys are crazy. In my 99 the power button is awesome. I have literally blown away some V8 for the first 1/8 to 1/4 mile. No joke!

He's right, it just changes the shift points. The only way you are going to notice the difference is on the highway. If you press the button then it might shift to a lower gear (rev higher)

You can call it a "passing button" if you want. Any other time it is just a waste of gas
