can we say no to CCTV in the work place?

and finally got caught because of CCTV

You don't mention your circumstances.
Anyway, I work in a special needs school, with children who have challenging behaviour. Overall it seemed a good idea at first because if the kids make allegations, it can be dealt with internally immediately, and without suspension or police involvement. That's if you HAVENT done anything wrong in the first place.
But now we have been told that we cant view the recordings because of any possible proceedings in the future. The children's right to anonymity during these difficult times has been put forward also.
I feel it very spooky indeed that a small group of unknowns can trawl through the tapes without us knowing. What they interpret as wrong doing could easily be seen as wrongful doing, and you are layed off until further notice.
It has also caused animosity amongst staff who feel they cannot speak whilst under surveillance during breaks because they might want to GOSSIP (this is sometimes a healthy option than saying nothing) about another member of staffs handling of a situation. The whole place has become one giant stand-off, with everyone suffering a bout of paranoia. If tis continues then people will leave the profession,which at best is undermanned and under staffed.

If someone is filming you I think you have the right to ask for a copy of the film, so every day get everyone to ask for personal copies of all the film that they are in.
