and who put up the closest to his numbers historically? has anyone averaged a double double in college?
im sick of people saying that next year mayo, gordon, and beasley are gonna be similar to durant next year. in my opinion we may not ever see another player like him. someone who can play all 5 postions just as good or better than most can play 1 position? come on now

players coming in and leaving after one year is nothing new....yes this rule is new and will change the game a little
I REALLY MESSED UP ON THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE. OF COURSE OTHER PLAYERS HAVE AVERAGED SIMILAR, BUT DURANT HAD GAMES WHERE HE HAD 35 PTS AND 25 REBOUNDS. THOSE ARE THE TYPE OF NUMBERS WE WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN. HE HAD MORE THAN 30 AND 15 SEVERAL TIMES THIS YEAR.
Good point on the KG and Lebron scenario though, I could see them putting up sick numbers in college.
thanks for the answers

There is no doubt that Durant is a special player, but when you take into consideration that he doesn't lead the league in ANY statistical category (though he's right near the top in a couple), and also consider that he's not the only person to average a double-double THIS YEAR, it becomes hard to anoint him the greatest of all time. I'm sure you love him and I'm sure he will do alright in the NBA but the fact is there's a player that puts up numbers like him just about every year.

Derrick Coleman used to have games almost as good as Durant's- and did it over three years. Olajwon put up big numbers in college. Don't forget the scoring Pete Maravich put up. Bill Walton was a scoring and rebounding machine. Jason Kidd was also great at Cal. There will be others who will put up Durant like numbers in the future.

There is another...
And there will always be others.
People like Durant and companty are looking real good becuase they are forced to go to college. If there was no age limit in the nba, durant oden , mayo all will be in the nba. lebron, garnett and even Kobe could have put up possible Durant numbers if they had gone to college.

As long as high school seniors have to put in 1 year of college minimum before the nba, then yes. a lot of high school seniors like durant will be forced to play college basketball and could put up numbers like durant. To be honest I don't like the rule of 1 year of college before nba because it destroys a lot of good teams. Yes, they will be good for a year but after that they need to find a go to guy and everything else.

20 years from now, there will be many better than Durant. Historically, many were better. Robertson, Chamberlain, Jordan, Jabbar, Johnson, Bird just to scratch the surface

I think we will see players continue put up #'s in college...we have and we will continue to see it.....But that does'nt mean there on the level of Durant!...I think K.Durant is special...he has all the tools to become an all time great..I mean he has everything...He's has KG's body and T-Mac's game....SCARY!!!!.......hopefully he can go to Boston and turn that great franchise around!!..

yes we will this is the start of a new generation of basketball talent where the freshmen will all be better than most of the upper class men because of the one year that they will spend in college then leave to go into the draft.

Duh, someone's going to put up some unbelieveable numbers, but unlike Durant, they'll probably have the brains to go through college before entering the draft.
