Ok, so I bought a new computer case fan and what I have always wondered is which side it should be attached to...like one side of the fan is open and the other side has like support pieces in front of the fan...which side blows air in and which side blows air out?

Another question...I have a fan on the left side of my computer case, which way should it be directing air, in or out?

Honestly, it really all depends on the configuration of the other fans on your computer.

In other words, if you already have two fans blowing out, you want to have two fans blowing in as well. Otherwise you are not getting proper airflow.

Generally you want to have the ones lower on the case blowing in and the ones higher up on the case blowing out. Heat rises and you want to blow the heat out of the case and bring in cool air from the bottom.

Usually, if you look at the side of the fan, it will have two little arrows telling you which way the fan rotates and which way the air flows.

As far as the fan on the side, It is most likely directly above your processor. You still want to follow the 2 fans in 2 fans out rule. If you have it blow in, it will blow cool air onto the processor. If you have it blow out, it will suck the hot air away from the processor. Either way it will help.

that's probable that your ability grant already has its very own cooling fan - good priority then is conserving the CPU cool - this would have its very own heatsink already - good laptop's also have a fan linked to that heatsink - your project is to do away with the nice and cozy air from around the CPU cooler so as that clean cool air gets drawn into the casing. general setup is to place exhaust followers on the decrease back panel of the casing, and then if mandatory + in case you have room (and money to spare) an intake fan on front or side panel - strongly propose cleanable airborne dirt and dust filter out on all intake followers, else you purely top off the casing with homestead airborne dirt and dust, cat fur. etc, etc. playstation - in case you have a extensive casing with unused force bays in the front panel, you could care to learn out the undesirable boy in the link under - I even have one (as an intake natch), and it seems super at evening while the room lights are down low... (be beneficial you in superb condition a filter out too)
