First of all, check whether your pc has a DVD or a CD Drive. Even if it is a DVD, you will need additional software (like Cyberlink) for the Pc to play the DVD movies. You can download the same free from the internet. Lets assume that you have all of the above but still you can't play DVD movies. First, the DVD drive driver might be corrupt, or the Drive might be faulty or the DVD is region coded. If your DVD player is configured for region 5, you won't be able to play any other region coded disc unless you reconfigured the player. You can configured the player for maximum 5 times then it will only work with the last region configured. Even if you reinstall the software, it won't work in other region.
But there is always a solution....Simply download a region free dvd player from the internet (the functionality might be basic...)

Does you HP PC have a DVD player? ? ? ? ?
Not all PC's do. If it does it will have DVD on the face of the player. If not, you will have to buy one an install it.
PS. While the DVD player slot and the CD-ROM disc slots are identical, they are NOT the same players. You can sometimes play a CD in a DVD player, but you CANNOT play a DVD in a CD-ROM
( CD_RW).

Hello,
You need software first of all, anything that has "dvd" in the title is a good start. Second, goto my computer, right click on c:, choose properties, then choose device manager, you should be able to locate your drive, see if it has "dvd" anywhere in the title. Third, pop one in and see what happens, it won't break it so don't worry

Like the others of have said, ensure its has a DVD rom. The second thing you need to check is software. Windows XP doesn't come with its own built in decoder so you'll probably have to download something like PowerDVD to get it to work. Once you have it installed though you can play it on WMP.
