In this auto and RV magazine I have (free one full of vehicles for sale), there is a full page ad for a place buying any and all brands of motorcycles. On one side there is a small starburst with the message "Harley owners cash out now before it's too late $$". What are they getting at when they say that? Anyone who frequesnts the motorcycles knows I'm not too keen on HD. Not trying to be a smartasss, what do they mean "too late"?

Sandman: I never meant to imply that I am worried about HD, just wondering why the advertiser thought there was some urgency to dumping one. Somehow I knew you'd take the question the wrong way though.

why are u worried about hd when u dont either like or ride hd? that would be like askin any cruiser rider something about 'xxx' brand of rice rocket and they neither like or ride 1.
btw, their stock is still going quite strong. not as good as the $70+ high it was last year before the '07 models stagnated the market, but still better than the low of $40 before last year's season. hd is still selling at least 20 over the jap brands also.

Anyone not blinded by the chrome can see they will have some rough roads ahead. Their customer base is getting older and older and they will have to get younger customers.
At this time they are seen by high-school kids as the bike gramps rides or more and more often a girls bikes.
look at Cadillac they had the same issue. Back in the day all the old folks drove caddis, then pimps took them over. Cadi is still working on building a youthful image.
Businessweek - "But with sales expected to dip after a three-week strike by workers at its big York (Pa.) plant cut production 21% in the first quarter, the company faces some rough road. Its stock, which peaked at nearly $76 a share in the past year, is struggling to stay in the mid-60s (as of today $61). Analysts have scaled back their ratings. Long term, Harley is wrestling with how much to change its bikes to suit shifting tastes and skimpier budgets among younger riders. Over time, avoiding becoming “grandpa’s wheels” could prove Harley’s biggest challenge."

My best guess is that it is probably aimed toward owners of Harley's with the 88 cubic inch motor. It's likely they will be in less demand or more difficult to sell for premium dollar now that HD stock motors are 96 cubic inch.

It's a comeon to get someone to sell their HD cheap, like way below wholesale. Then, they turn around and sell it for a profit. Just like the "Act Now!" or "Only 10 minutes left to call!" in commercials. Some people panic at the slightest suggestions.

Harley understands their market. That's why they'll never be relegated to history's dustbin.
If they were smart, they'd offer all the icons of the past for sale today.
Wouldn't it be great to go to a Harley dealer and get to see the flathead back in production? How about the Knucklehead, Panhead and Shovelhead all lined up next to the current crop of Blockheads, Buttheads and Boneheads.
The ad you saw is just some lone voice in the wilderness crying wolf.
Trust me . . .
there is no wolf . . .
not this time anyway.

Baron, That's just for those that bought one as an "investment". It's easier to scare an investor off his bike than a rider. If the investor sells cheap, they just re-sell for more. Besides, haven't you noticed how advertising works? Hype, hype, hype. You don't get near the truth until you're at the store.
Honestly, I don't care. Not selling, not buying, and didn't write the ad.

Don't know Baron....can you call the dealer who placed the ad? Give them a call and ask them... not us as to what they meant.
More than likely it's a dealer ploy to get folks to come in and get one now before everyone else does.
