Mega, the best chancellor ever, average interest rate of about 5.5% compared to the tories almost 10%. If you want to lose your house, vote tory, but dont come wanting to live in my spare room.

Pretty much as I expected. Balanced in Browns trademark prudent manner - concentrating more on economic stability rather than benefiting anybody in particular. The usual "give with one hand and take away with the other" kind of budget really.

I don't think many people are a lot better off, or a lot worse off, even considering Browns surprise 2p income tax cut - the expected "popular measure" to make him look good before Labour leadership election, which is partially balanced by the abolition of the 10p rate on the first £2500 p.a.

Myself? - I'm very slightly better off income tax wise - just about enough to cover the increase in Edinburgh's council tax.

If Gordon Brown thinks that this Budget will improve his poll ratings then he has to be as deluded as Blair. Surely there must be someone in this appalling government who could be sane enough to be considered for PM. I doubt if there is anyone competent enough but sanity would be an improvement.

I am sure the astute among you noticed quite a few of his 'give aways' don't come into play for about another 12 months. Struck me as strange that the day after the Budget Brown was going from one TV studio to another having to defend it.

Im unsure if scrapping the 10p starting rate means 20p from the get go. If it does, then people on very low wages will be paying more. Surely this is unjust?

Terrible. It is set to be so distant that it is meaningless. A fall in income tax in one band but the abolition of the 10p band means that there is no real gain for millions of people that can least afford to live. All pensioners pay tax on their pensions so they to will lose out. Inheritance tax band increased but not for years yet. By that time property prices will have taken people back over the limit and there will effectively be no change.
Total rubbish and if he becomes Prime Minister I going to live in another country.

He's hitting the motorist AGAIN to appease the tree-hugging greens with their flawed science. If ALL the cars in Britain were to be destroyed overnight it would not make a pennyworth of difference to the climate. What about these new coal fuelled power stations being built in China?
He is also throwing money at unmarried mothers again, this will only encourage them to produce more little 'illegitimates' at the expense of US the tax payers.

One thing is for certain ,
I will not be getting any benefits !

''Take from the poor and give to the rich!''

OK, that is a bit cynical , i will scrutinise , the details ,
