What is the point of tall boots?

What is the point of having tall boots (either lace-up or western) if your pants are just going to cover the leg part anyway?

They are now fashionable,and they will keep the leg warm. The original use was if one were walking in rough terrain they would protect ones leg from injuries and scratches, insect and snake bites etc.Tucking the trouser into the boot is also fashionable now and it keeps in the warmth.

The point of tall boots is to keep your legs warm. I know I have two pair of boots, both tall I wear them with pants because they are the only boots I own. I wear them with skirts because they keep my legs warm. Some people just can't afford to buy "pants boots" and "skirt boots". The other reason is:

well, you if they're for a girl, she can wear them with pretty much anything, not just pants that will cover the boots. also, they are good for keeping in some warmth while you;re out in the cold, and protect you from rain, etc, not like a low shoe or sneaker.

I dunno about regular boots, but when I worked at a ranch when it's really muddy you can tuck your pants into the tops to keep them clean when your walkin across the pastures or whatever. Plus riding with your heels down pulls your pant leg up and it really sucks if you have an inch of ankle exposed when it's freezing cold.

Most people tuck their pants into their boots it looks relly cute. but for the few people who do cover the boot I don't really know why.
