I have a 500GB MyBook Pro External Hard Drive from Western Digital and I'd like to check its temp but none of the software recognize it. They do recognize my internal HD. And BTW my external HD HAS SMART support.

Download the "Lifeguard Diagnostics" Utility from Western Digital.

It works on their external drives as well & will tell you if there are any imminent issues wit the drive.

Not sure if it does the temperature measurement, however, the info it provides will be just as reliable & helpful.

The external drive most likely does not have a temperature sensor built into it.

The only way to monitor the tem would be to install your own sensor on the HDD's inside the enclosure.

I can almost guarantee you that the drives are fine just the way they are. WD engineered their cases to keep the hard drives cool.
