What does a pharmacist do on a basic work day? Is it stressful and how many hours do they usually work?

My wife works nights in a hospital as a pharmacist. She works 7 nights, then has 7 days off. She'll work (5) 9pm - 7am shifts, and (2) 7pm - 7am shifts.

The week off is great! The week of work is hell for our family, though.

Her position at the hospital is much less stressful than when she worked in retail. Retail would be great if it weren't for chain pharmacies cutting back on tech staff hours. Also, drive-thru windows have to be blamed for about 99% of the burnout rate of pharmacists in retail.

I just got done with a 56 hour work week. Stress is largely a function of how you respond and not necessarily what happened.

As for what is typical......that depends on what setting you work in.
