As Idol literally means an Icon..
I guess the show should be titled "American Music Idol" because all that goes on that show is just music related.
I am an honors student and highly active in community service and I've met several teens of my age who are more successful than me in education and really making a difference in community.
Are they or myself not eligble for the title "American Idol" just because we can not sing?

oh my gosh i so love you for saying this!
it is a music competition, the title dosent do it justice.
people should idolize community "heroes" rather than singers who wanted 15 minutes in the lime light.
you just have to show the world that you are just a valuble to society as a singer.

Great question! One of the best to come out of the program was Kelly Clarkson. She is a successful star in her own right but is by no means an Idol. One thing she has is "staying power". Then you consider how many winners or near winners the show has had, and I don't think anyone idolizes any of them. In fact, some have completely faded out of the picture. "The next American Music Star, Maybe" would be the best title for the show, but it's hardly a memorable "grabber"! Toodles!

That's a good point but I think you're reading into it too much. I mean, who would watch a TV show called "People Who Can Sing And That You'll Probably Idolize Although You'll Like Them Only For Shallow And Physical Reasons Because You Don't Know Anything About Them Other Than That They Can Sing"? I wouldn't watch that show. It's just a title. Don't worry about it. :)

Yes it is for those who can sing. If you can not than you would be outts the first day of talent scout
