Colleges really like to see volunteer work on your application. If you already know what you would like to do you could try to volunteer somewhere that holds that profession. Clubs are also good like math club and such. Colleges do not care as much about what you were apart of in high school as they do your grades. You dont want to be a part of so many things in high school, and get iffy grades. National Honor Society is a very good thing to work towards while in high school, and I am pretty sure you apply around Junior year. Not only will colleges see that and think you are very determined to get grades, but you will also get a lot of scholorships and grants to help you pay for school.

Your best bet is to keep doing the activities you are doing now. Colleges get suspicious if you suddenly take on tons of different activities and join many different clubs towards the end of high school in your junior and senior years. They will love to see that you are a girl scout, so if you can, keep at it! You're going into two different sports, and that'll look very good too. Don't even bother to do three, that's just pushing it.
Join a few clubs in your freshman and sophomore years and continue these while you're an upperclassman, as many as you like. Just don't bog yourself down with extracurricular activities. Your new school will probably have an honors program (mine has the National Honor Society), and if you get decent grades you can be accepted into it. Also, try an educational summer camp if you can. Enter contests. Colleges like to see if you do community service, so you might want to check that out as well.
I know all this seems like a lot, but four years is more than enough time to participate in things that will look good on your future applications. And don't just do things because they will look good for college... have fun with what you do! Hope this helps.

Stay with the activities that you're doing now that you enjoy but concentrate on school. That should come before everything. Colleges aren't going to accept anyone just because they had the most volunteer hours. If your high school has an Academic Decathalon Team- Join it!! Colleges look for kids that were on AcaDeca teams. Plus you get scholarship money! When you do start high school, go meet with a counselor and tell them your goals for college and they should be able to guide you in the right direction!

You should join philanthropic organizations. And organizations that teach leadership qualities. It might be good to join the debate team. You should also try to take as many college prep classes & honors classes as possible.
