It's deeply surreal, in the tradition of Python, and attacks institutions and traditions like the Catholic church, celebrity culture, racism and the very nature of faith without ever being cruel, or spiteful. Of the three priests, one is a psychotic drunk, one is barely sentient and one is a hopelessly corrupt, vain coward, yet they're all completely lovable. And the writing never got lazy (sadly, it never got a chance, with the untimely death of Dermot Morgan). It's also very, very, very funny. Check out "Big Train" on DVD, Graham Linehan's earlier project (with Simon Pegg from Shaun Of The Dead!), funniest TV show of all time, no contest. Down with this sort of thing!

One of the funniest TV shows ever, my 13 yr old grandson as bought all the videos and loves them all, I know that Dermot Morgan would be hard to replace but surely another actor could be drafted in to restart this brilliant series.

It's very amusing to think priests in Ireland are so backward. Mrs Doyle plays the perfect housekeeper.

It's irreverent, it's surreal, and it's funnier by far than anything American TV has going right now, with the possible exception of The Simpsons.

Because it's hilarious!
O'Hanlon (forgive me I can't spell his first name) makes the show! The character Dougal is superb! His expressions, the things he comes out with, quality.
Mrs Doyal also is a top character too!

It doesnt make any sense and they over excagerate everything but it works. Its really original and the plots are different per episode - its just good all round!

Because it's hilarious!! Also, I'm Irish & Catholic & my uncle is a priest & we used to love putting it on when he visited just to see the appalled look on his face & the colourful language coming from his mouth! I thought priests weren't allowed to swear in real life!!!!!!
