When you're flying into Phoenix, AZ, you can see a fairly good size river running through the city. There are even boats and docks visible. What is the name of that river?

Sorry, but it actually is the Salt River. The large Lake type area you'll see coming into Sky Harbor Airport is a dammed up area known as Tempe Town Lake! There rarely is much water in the Salt River running into the Phoenix area after early April. There are many canals that run throughout the Phoenix and surrounding community areas. The only boating done on the Town Lake (Tempe)
is a large tour boat, kayaks, paddle boats and canoes as no other "motor" boating is allowed. They put a large dam at both ends of the Salt River and formed this artificial Town Lake which is approximately a mile long and a 1/4 mile across. PS: Some people swim in it occasionally, since they stage 3-4 large Triathlons at the Town Lake each year. Thank goodness most of them wear wet suits... :+)
