I have a problem with my scalp. My skin is very dry and I am not sure if it is dandruff or maybe somehting serious. The flakes are out of control. When I wash my hair it is okay until it dries. I also have scabs on my scalp sometimes. This is very embarassing. No dandruff shampoos seem to help me. Do you have any suggestions? I am really thinking about seeing a doctor.

It is not lice, it is just flakes. I have been doing a lot of psoriasis research and it seems too serious for just what I have. I'm sure it comes all all sorts of ways though right.

I have had symptoms like that. Try a strong tar shampoo like Nutragena T-Gel, and a strong zinc shampoo like Zincon. Shampoo hair everyday and alternate between the two: Monday Nutragena, Tuesday Zincon, Wednesday Nutragena, etc. You can also try taking zinc tablets, or both zinc and biotin tablets.
If they don't work, go to a doctor, preferably a dermatologist.
I have had success with the shampoos (a dermatologist told me to do that), and I tried the zinc and biotin (a nurse told me about that). Both things seemed to work for quite some time but I eventually went back to the doctor and got a cream called Lidex. I don't know if Lidex is going to help you, because I don't know if you have the same condition I have. After a few diagnosis changes, my dermatologist said it's prurigo nodularis, a type of neurodermatitis (combination nerve and skin disorder). At first, he said it was seborrheic dermatitis, which is probably what your doctor will say if you see one.

The scalp is an overall image of how healthy your body is. It could just be excess oil. Use Garnier Fructis. The natural oils tend to make hair soft and can get rid of your dandruff. If it is from a type of intolerance to chemicals, use more natural shampoos and conditioners (btw, completely wash out shampoo and conditioners from your hair as it causes dandruff too)
Try tea tree oil, it helps heal most skin problems.
If putting tea trea in your shampoo doesn't help, then see your local dermatologist.

it sounds like you have dandruff. Dandruff is dry flaky skin that comes off of your scalp. If you have a dry scalp you should find a shampoo to help you with that. But if your not sure what it may be, my advice is to go to a local salon and buy a shampoo there and ask what they recommend. Don't be embarrassed. Dandruff is quite common. No big deal. Good luck :)

Dandruff is one of the major disorders of the scalp.Poor hygiene, improper diet ,sluggish condition of the scalp caused by poor blood circulation are the main causes of dandruff. A herbal rinse is a safe method of removing dandruff. Apply lemon juice with the rind on the scalp .After 5 minutes wash off with shampoo and water. You may have a condition doctors call seborrheic dermatitis, in which you have scaling and/or a dry rash on your scalp. You should definitely get it checked out by you family physician so that it doesn't make you look unpleasant and so that people don't start talking out your flaky scalp behind your back.

Severe dandruff can lead to itching and hence scabs and pustules form from scratches. Its usually a fungal infection by pityrosporum ovale. Try shampoo containing ketoconazole (NIZRAL) or Selenium sulphide (SELSUM). If you have already tried one or you have a really severe dandruff, please consult a dermatologist coz, as you have rightly pointed, it can be scalp psoriasis
