Lasted from 1914 to 1918
Vast military cemetrys in palces like Ypres and Flanders Fields
Lots of the Solidiers suffered from 'Trench Foot' caused by standing in wet ditches 24/7.
When commanded to 'Go over the top' the soldiers scrambled up ladders and tried to advance towards the enemies front line. (95% of them were killed as soon as they went over the top.
Failure to go over the top or deserting your post resulted in execution at dawn by a firing squad.
Many soldiers convicted of cowardice were executed but in fact were suffering from 'Shell Shock' and simply couldn't fathom out what to do, where to go, how to behave etc - some of these have now been pardoned posthumously.
Acts of extreme bravery were mentioned in dispatches (notes back from the front line to England). These soldiers were awarded many differing types of medals dependant on the nature of the bravery shown - Victoria Cross, Iron Cross etc.
Conditions were very basic and not for the faint hearted.
Some of the amazing tunnels and trenches can still be found intact, including underground hospitals etc and are now tourist attractions. (Belgium)
There were specific military hospitals back in England to treat wounded Soldiers and help them recuperate. The Last one in the country left is Haslar and that is just about to close.
Well that's ten!! - Hope they help

1. Kaiser Wilhelm suffered from a birth defect that did not allow one of his arms to be fully functional. This is why in all the pictures of him he has a strange glove on to make his hand appear to be normal.
2. After Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo the following events took place: (assassination: 28 June 1914)
* Germany grants Austria-Hungary a 'blank check" to punish Serbia (6 July, 1914)
* Austria-Hungary submits a punitive ultimatum to Serbia (23 July 1914)
* Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia (28 July 1914)
* the Russian Army Mobilizes: (31 July 1914)
* Germany and France mobilize because Russia mobilized (1 August 1914)
* Germany gives an ultimatum to Belgium that results in Britain giving an ultimatum to Germany ( 2 + 3 August, 1914)
* War begins because Germany invades Belgium (4 August 1914)
These are kinda random but I hope they help!
