People vote for tax cuts for the rich, when those tax cuts will hurt their own community, and will not be reflected in their own paychecks, for instance, or voters allow themselves to get distracted from the real issues like the war in Iraq by "family values" issues that do not directly affect their lives. Why don't people take care of themselves?

Uninformed voters are the culprits. They don't do their homework before they vote. Instead they are influenced by 15 second sound bytes and the way the politician dresses, combs her hair or by what others think.

Read, check voting records on past issues, watch those boring debates and then decide which candidate's platform best matches your concept of an ideal candidate.

Most people are just voting for the 'lesser of two evils' .

The majority of them don't actually do any research into the candidate or the possible effects of the legislation that they are likely to persue once in office.

They listen to the propaganda being issued by candidates opponents and think that they are doing the right thing by voting against them without looking at the facts.

P.S. To the moron who said: 'Hasn't it been proven that tax cuts for the rich stimulate the economy which helps everyone?' You are referring to the imaginary 'trickle down effect' that this administration was pushing.

The fact is - when the rich get to keep more of their tax return, they don't necessarily spend it. A lot of them will just add it to their already obscene pile of cash, and sit on it.

Do some research before posting ignorant blather.

because they are doing anything to vote against the other guy etc..

I know people who vote REP just b/c he's NOT DEM or vice versa. some people just lack a spine, and cannot really stand up for what they say they believe in..

Problem is..there are enough of those people that IF they did vote their conscious then the election results of the last 16 years would have been a LOT different..

People DO vote for what they believe is in their greatest net self-interest.

I disagree with your characterization of the issues. I'm sure someone will ask similar questions about people on the other end of the spectrum.

I think that people do vote for their own self interests. Hasn't it been proven that tax cuts for the rich stimulate the economy which helps everyone?

If people only voted for their own self interest welfare benefits would be about $10 a month.

People will vote for the rich and powerful corporate backed candidate again in 2008. Americans will never figure it out. They're being played!
