Because it's easier for many people to attack the speaker than to actually address and debate the issue on the merits.

It takes far less time and effort to insult and ignore you than to think about the issues and come up with a useful response.

It's a common political tactic on both sides. The last refuge of those unable to actually think about an issue.

When a person gives an intelligent critique or criticism of Bush and the war then I don't have a clue what political leanings that person has. When someone, however, calls the president a moron or an idiot or the devil and then goes on to bash the military or the country for its involvment in Iraq then it's pretty safe to assume they fall far left of the spectrum. The problem with the outspoken liberals on some of these questions is that they are so emotionally charged that their insults and their criticisms make no sense or are so outrageous that they don't deserve to be taken seriously.

Just like Liberals calls anybody who support the way a chicken hawk?..

Its because neither party is willing to see the other side and wants to discredit them with an insult rather than engaging in a conversation. A reasonable Conversation requires know of the topic, and people do not want to spend time researching a subject. They just want to pick and side and start calling the other side names.

I sympathize with you.

Hey, I'm a liberal, but I have a lot of conservative friends, including my in-laws, and you should hear my conservative right wing, always -voted-republican-until-2004 father-in-law rail agains Dubya. He's even worse than my dreadlocky left-wing-radical, anarchist son. And don't even get my independent conservative wife started.. Or my Republican tech sargeant republican just got back from 2 tours in Korea, two tours in Afghanistan, one tour in Iraq folk-singin' friend, who told me he spent his entire time in the middle east guarding oil pipelines and wells while Iraqi's and Afghani's *he knew* took shots at him and tried to blow him up.

So those who think only liberals don't like the war need to live in this middle aged man's world for a day. They'de have to change their tune, unless, of course they are neocon, Rush Limp-baugh worshipping, Sean Hannity lovin', blind sheep fools.

It saves them from thinking.
Even William F. Buckley writes against the war now.

The majority of anti-war protesters are liberal. Why do democrats assume that all Republicans are pro-life?

many people are interested in shooting the messenger rather than paying any attention to the message. this applies to all sides of any issue.

I'm a solid conservative and I'm against the war. We should always be against things that are wrong and aren't working.
