Painted turtles can get 4-6" for the male, 6-8" for the female and live for about 20 years with good care.

At about 1 year, its diet should be a mix of good pellets, worms, fish, frozen krill, shrimp, etc. Try this link for other ideas: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/caresheet-eastern_painted.htm

I bought my grand dauther one 6 years ago it was the size of my palm, now it is about 10 inches round, its huge, but a good pet, it shows love temper and all and when someone comes in the room the turtle knows it comes to greet them and loves to watch tv. You can even tell if someone is out in front of the house, the turtle faces that way. other than its normal food, they also like bananas raw hamburger and fruits, but only very small piece couple times a week, get a book on them from the pet store and you will find out so much more.
