Well, I'll echo some of the above.

St. Elmo's-legendary
Santorini's-best baba ganoush (but everyone always orders the flaming cheese)

I would add Amalfi's on Massachusetts Ave. for good Italian.

And, if you like BBQ, G. T. Souths is awesome, and has two locations now. See their website below.

Any hotel in Indy will have a city guide for dinning and places to see. Depending on your situation, alone or with someone. Best place with a date is the Eagles Nest. Also if you want cheap food with a different enviroment-try Steelhorse Saloon. It is a biker restaurant two blocks North of Broadripple-right off College Ave. Excellent service-eat there for lunch every time while in Indy for business.

The Bosphorus just south of downtown has awesome Turkish food. Santorini's, nearby in Fountain Square, has killer Greek food. For a more upscale dinner, Elements downtown is probably the best restaurant in town. St. Elmo's Steakhouse is legendary, but I think it's overpriced. Likewise, Shapiro's delicatessen just south of downtown is a classic eatery, but also overpriced. Oh, and get a pork tenderloin sandwich with onion rings from the Mug 'n' Bun on the west side.

If you like steak, try Ruth Chris' Steakhouse. Warning- they're a really fancy place. Like $80 for two people.
If you want a cheaper alternative, try Longhorn's Steakhouse. They're good and not as expensive.
Also, there is the Cheesecake Factory. Also slightly pricey. Very good, with more than steak.
If you're willing to drive a bit, try Bub's. It is in downtown Carmel and has the best burgers ever!

For a burger and a beer, you must go to Bub's in Carmel. It's on Main St. a few blocks west of Rangeline Rd.

You already know what all of the chains are like...try researching on the Indy Ethnic Food website to see what might suit your tastes.

P.S. The service at the Spaghetti Factory is awful, and the food just so-so. Everyone has different preferences, but I do not recommend it.

You should go to Pete's Tiki Bar downtown on 5th and Walters. They have great Hawaiian food. The atmoshphere is fun and family-friendly. I totally recommend the Luau Pork.
