ahh the wonderful world of fast food. Like everything else it has its consequences unless one has control. Too much of that greasy and tasty food can lead to health problems. However, fastfood has and my guess will continue to be a great establishement for the food industry. Why? For the simple reason that we do not like to wait for things especially when you have so much stress in your life and you tend to be on the rush or maybe we do not want to spend an entire pay check on just one meal. If you look around, you will find out that it is not the baby bloomers who visit these fast food places, but the generation x. It's a trend and that is hard to break when you were introduced to it at such an early age. There may be tons of reasons why the fast food industry was established, but bottom line is "its mighty good especially those McDonald fries"! If you will excuse me all this talk has made me hungry!! Think I'll try some Wendy's this time.

Fast food establishments came about with the advent of the automobile. More cars, more fast food. People wanted food fast to eat on the run or take home. More women working outside the home for longer hours meant less time for meal preparation. Also with more vehicles came more travellers which is why most fast food outlets are on major routes. Many are the same from coast to coast so people know what sort of food they have.

Watch the old movie American Graffiti! In the 50's teens used to cruise the blvd on week-ends to show off their cars, etc. Ray Kroc got the idea to build a drive-thru in San Bernardino,Ca to serve the E St. cruisers. It was the first Mcdonalds in the world. He later sold franchises and also owned the San Diego Padres. Cruising was a big deal back then, as gas was cheap and life was alot simpler!

It was mainly for people who are "on-the-go" and wanted a quick bite to eat, or for stay-at-home moms who didn't want their kids to complain about how it took two hours to make an average meal, when they were first established. Just like many other people said, its mainly for the convinience.

Convenience and cost. Mass production of any good is cheaper so instead of everyone cooking, a few places specialize in it to save us money and of course the time. Even with the amount of profit charged on the product, it is still cheaper because of the labor required.

Because Ronald McDonald scared the kids at the circus and he needed a new job to support his family... why not in the food industry.
