Widespread Panic would be the band. They recorded a song in the 90s called "Hatfield" about a man who sold the city fathers of Los Angeles (or was it San Fran) on the idea that he could break a drought by sending chemical steam into the air.. He was hired by the city. He set to work boiling something, the vapors drifted into the air, and by god it worked.. or at least it rained.. too much. He was driven out of the city in disgrace and never was paid for his services. Great lyrics and what an original idea for a song! There is also a very cool little bass solo (by Dave Schools) amongst the extended jam of the song. From the album "Everyday"

Blondie is without a doubt my favorite band. My favorite song by them is Maria, but I'd have to say the best song they ever made is...Dreaming. I love the lyrics (I'd build a road in gold just to have some dreaming, dreaming is free), the music (real upbeat and fun), and most of all Debbie Harry's voice (smooth and powerful). The same thing is true with most of their songs, but Dreaming is a great example.

I love Linkin Park so my favorite song by them is In the End. It is a deep song for someone who has experienced anything described by the lyrics of the song.

I love Coldplay. I love their song "Shiver". I guess because it was the first song of theirs that I really liked. It has a complex chord structure, unlike many of the songs that are popular today. It's emotional, deep, and it rocks. Simple as that!
