I'm very fortunate and live on a hill farm with wonderful views, bit snowy at present and rather cold outside. It situated close to a small town. Sadly this idyllic place continues to be contaminated by left overs from McDonald's, Pizza boxes, Coke cans, Beer and Cider cans and those wonderful bits of plastic from four and six packs that choke and kill my lambs. Maybe a good piece of art work would be a comparison of the beauty of the countryside or national monument been despoiled by these such things. Most of these ideas have come from America sadly. Possibly then a portrait of an American soldier wearing helmet and respirator with the eye pieces filled with such litter. Alternatively I'm sure you could borrow a large gas jar or measuring cylinder from the science lab and fill it with crumpled cans, crisp packets etc. As it's a cylinder it would provide a nice containment vessel for drawing which would provide space left and right for lettering your poster. Alternatively mock up some lettering for your poster in three dimensional card or foam board and partially bury it with litter. Last week in a beauty spot nearby I found a burnt out car the doors were off on one side and all kinds of litter had blown into it.
I took some close up shots which I then posterized. Entitling it 'Proud Nation'. Don't worry about been 'skint' just ask the local boy racers they'll provide it free of charge, as will most fast food outlets. Hope I haven't been to depressingly cynical and have given you food for thought. Finally detailed pencil drawing would be good with some pencil colourwork here and there. Alternatively you could do a lamb corpse choked by plastic and surrounded by litter. That could be entitled 'after Damien Hirst'.

well as its recycling then i doubt very much they would expect you to buy anything new!!
there's loads and loads of things you could take in,

stuff like scrunched up Carrier bags, used up packaging, old tin can etc... these all have really interesting textures that would be fun to draw. Packaging also has bright imagery that when distorted ( torn, creased, has been wet and dried etc...)would be good to draw.

another really cool one that i used in the past for a similar project is crushed drinks can's like a tango can or something. The can is really cool when crushed but looks even better when its gone rusty and half decomposed, you can do some really detailed close up drawings. i event went to go out and find some on the street! pretty manky mind but only way to get one that decomposed.

you could collect some recycling logo's torn off packaging for some graphic imagery e.g. the image of a person putting stuff in the bin. they would be cool to collage together and draw.

you could even just take in a bag of rubbish! then tear it open see what falls out and draw it! that would be ace with like old bannana skins and stuff falling out!

good luck with it! sounds fun!

Do you have a nice bin, like a weaved basket bin? It would be using natural product for the weave and then it would be a "recycled bin" get it?

Maybe fill it with something interesting, like old light bulbs to portray eliminating the old bulbs for the new energy saving bulbs.

Or a pair of trainers to show walking instead of using transport for reduce co2 emmissions. They also have links to energy.

Or an glass jar with some home made compost and a lavendar plant in it.

Recyclable jar, recycled veg peelings and compost, plant that can be used to make the air smell sweet instead of spraying chemical air fresheners.

Good luck!

Plastic drink bottles, clear and green, crushed and stomped on, make wonderful subjects, particularly as a pencil sketch.

Also crushed Coca-cola, Seven up tins and stuff, I am a mere "Learner" and could not believe I could spend 6 hours drawing a crushed plastic bottle, and find so much of a kick when I look at it - even now!

maybe take in some old food that could be used to make a compost and draw that or even make a compost!!
Or if you have any garden gnomes then take a happy one that lives in a beautiful garden near a pond, And a old sad one that lives in a garden that people have throwed bit of old sweet wrappers in to and old rusty coke can.

for a project like that, crumpled up cans or old glass bottles are great. you could make it into one of those 'pick up your rubbish' posters....
