My beliefs in this matter are founded on the principle that a nation has the right to control its own borders. [Yes, even a nation made up mostly of immigrants has the right to control its own borders.] That includes controlling immigration. We already have a procedure to allow legal immigration to occur, and in general some amount of immigration is a good thing.

However, illegal immigration is currently way out of control. Our representatives at the state and federal levels need to put their foot down and take control. Having such a large influx of people who are so needy in terms of state assistance (education, health care, etc) is putting a very large burden on us financially. And that doesn't even get into the logistical questions like where do we put them all, and how to we make sure it doesn't become a public health issue.

Obviously, something needs to be done. The reason it isn't being done is simple. Our representatives in government are no longer accountable to the people. They are constantly being lobbied by representatives of big business. Big business (especially the farming industry) has an almost unquenchable thirst for cheap labor, and they're always complaining that if they have to pay American citizens to do the work, they'll go bankrupt.

In my opinion, that's not true. I don't believe for a second that they'd actually go bankrupt. I think that's a blatant "the sky is falling" argument, intended to manipulate us all (and especially the government) into seeing to it that the flow of illegal immigrant workers continues unimpeded.

So the short answer to your question is "so we don't have to pay more for our orange juice."

I am answering this as a Brit. but as I am going to the USA for a couple of weeks over Easter I know that the laws are similar.
1 You are questioned upon entering to see if you can support yourself. If you can't they won't let you in.
2. Same thing
3.You won't even get on a plane without a return ticket let alone get off one.
4. Most people have this but if they don't it is the British way not to turn people away.
My daughter lives in Cape Town and comes to visit me every year. I am British and have lived here since 1976,I am a company director and live in my own house in the South East.
Every time my daughter comes into UK she gets the third degree about the money she is carrying and the place that she will stay (and they write my address on her landing card that every non Brit must fill in. This is the same as the visa waiver form that I must fill in to enter the States).
A friend of mine that is a director of a Large company and pays £2800 a month in tax Yes £2800 has his mother go through the same when she visits him.

So please learn the facts before you make a statement like that.

I just received this e-mail. Perhaps this would help you understand why.

To Kill an American

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)

"An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least.

The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America .

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself.
Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place.
They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Unless you are native American and when I say that I mean red Indian. Then you need to think about how your family got here before you start making those types of statements.

Remember this: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door" -from "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus (on the foot of the statue of liberty)

1. Most Immigrants to America through history came with not but a hope and a prayer. Most likely your family is included in this group.

2. Read #1.

3. How dandy of you to be so loving to your fellow man. And by the way many pay 10s of thousands of dollars to get here. They have spent their life's savings to land on these shores and have no way back because of this expenditure.

4. Have you looked at what countries we get these people from? Health Insurance is a first world and some second world benefit not something you see in a third, fourth, or fifth world country.

With that said i have problems with illegals. Come over I am fine with that but you should go through the legal proper channels.

Actually they aren't allowed in the country. The problem is that the laws on the books already aren't being properly enforced. Different districts interpret them different ways. Technically, none of them even have rights in the US, becasue they are not US citizens, but for some reason we are treating them like they are. Its also interesting that only Mexican illegals are deported, many other nationalities cross our border illegally. Illegals know mexico is the best entry point into the US, and they take advantage. Other nationalities are given a court dat and told to report, but only about 20% of them actually return. And why should they, nobody goes looking for them. Those that do return waste our tax dollars in jail. We do not deport them, because it is too "costly" and because they aren't mexican citizens, mexico refuses them entry!

Health insurance is not required for anyone (except in Massachusettes), so it would be unreasonable to require it for someone based solely on their country of origin.

As for a return ticket -- you always by a return ticket if you move from one state to another? Nobody else does either.

As for the first two, unless immigration laws have changed, anyone applying for resident status must show that they have somewhere to live and means of support.

The reason is because corporations want cheap labor and they are they actually think $7/ hour is enough to live on. Corporations will do what ever it takes to keep them. They will even tell the government they will go to Mexico and the government wants the taxes so they make sure the immigrants get in.

Our laws are very confusing. Infact I knew someone that lived in this country for 3 years lying about his SS# which is illegal on so many levels but after the 3 years he was able to apply for legal residency because our laws state if you can prove you have been here three years you can stay. We should have arrested him for government fraud with the SS# and deported him.

Why do we allow "English" people to have kids that they cannot afford and demand hand out after hand out, bleeding the country dry? It´s nothing to do with colour or country of origin. There are too many people taking out and not putting in. This Government is a soft touch - that's why.
