98 mazda protege. the two large brake lights on the trunk dont come on,the small one inside the car still works. checked bulbs. guess it cant be the fuse since the small one is still working.

Yes, it could be a fuse, but another very likely possibility is that the brake pedal switch is faulty. If you know how to use electrical test equipment, I recommend connecting a digital multimeter across the two terminals of the brake pedal switch and then applying the brakes. A good switch would show a voltage drop very near, or at, zero. If you get battery voltage, then the contacts are open and it will need to be replaced. You can also try to apply power directly to the brake switch wire to see if the lights light up. If this is not the cause, then I recommend taking it to a professional repair facility for the repair.
