If you speak of frivolous lawsuits, it's usually driven by greed.
Otherwise, I would just say that its too embarrassing for some to admit their own faults, which in turn contributes to the society not admitting its own mistakes as a whole.

Well - this is more of a "sociological" question than one for psychology...

But I am convinced that it is Television programming that creates this kind of "mass hysteria".

I know social conservatives and complete liberals who both agree on this point.

Television (especially the news) has become so sensationalized that it only serves to make people angry about the world they live in... we stop thinking that our neighbors are our friends.

If you stop watching TV for a week, you will see your attitude improve. I promise.
