I'm really interested in seeing the world, and also interested in doing research on the African diaspora. How are blacks treated in your country, economically, socially, etc? Are they accepted as nationals or treated as foreigners? Firsthand experience preferred. Please state your country.

Well, in Romania, being black is not usually fun, especially in the small cities (I live in one). You get stared at esp by the children (even from 1yr) & elderly people, maybe even touched (to see if you are just painted black) but that's never happened to me & it's only those who live in the village who do that (some1 told me of a local who fell of a bicycle on seeing a Black, & a mother who was frantically waking up her baby to see a Black person). Most of the time the elderly folk start a conversation, so when I see them staring I just figure that they just want a conversation. Most times, those who pick up courage say only nice things like "you're beautiful" (after alot of staring). You will be insulted in English (i've been told "**** you" & "suck my dick, *****") while walking in the streets, but it's usually the adolescent boys who do that. Locals say the reason we get stared at is because they have never seen blacks before. I got used to it after a while but I sticked get ticked off sometimes. Most times the younger generation start speakin to themselves in english whenever they are around us.
In the bigger cities, we almost practically blend in cos every1 is too busy to notice & there are much more Blacks there. In these areas, there are alot of people of mixed race, so we just kind of fit in. I guess the key is to know how to speak the language, then you won't really look strange.
Most people want to date Blacks here, some just for the fun of it, others for marriage.
Many many times, my Romanian friends wish they'd my skin colour or hair. I just tell them I wish I'd theirs.
Overall, Romanians are nice to us & it's easy to make friends. There are a few nasty experiences here & there just like anywh else, but usually it stems from a foreigner who gave a bad expression. For example, some apartment owners won't rent to foreigners, or taxi drivers won't let a foreigner board.
Most foreigners here are of Indian/Pakistani/Mauritius origin, & becos there are some locals of Indian origin here, I don't think they get as much attention as the Blacks, Asians, etc.

Hi Brandon. I am a Braziliam. My gramma is black and she is a daughter and grand daughter of slaves.
I will try to be as clear and concise and precise as possible for a question that has a lot of factors in consideration.
Brazil is a good country with good people, but is years behind United States. When there was all the traffic of the slaves about one million came to United States and about four million went to Brazil.
The majority of the population is black, but if you take in consideration the years of slavery, it is necessary several generation to change. It has been only 119 years that the slaves were declared free. Imagine know millions of slaves with no house, no income, no food, no clothes, absolutely nothing. It must have been absolutely terrifying.
Nowadays the majority of the blcks live in places call favelas, which are slum areas. It is sad, but most of them do not have opportunities, or the financial means. The goverment does help. There is some programs in place, but still is not enough. Again it takes several generations to change. Only 5% of them get the chance to go to a college and only 1% finishes. I do not want to sound discriminatory or racist because I am not, but a lot of them get into crimes, especially drugs, the narcotraffic is very powerful in Brazil, some end p in jail, some are dead. Some are able to get out and do something better. It has been only ten years that the goverment passes a law that does not allow companies to ask for pictures in the resumes. Companies use to do that and obviously call only a pretty girl for an interview instead the black girl.
It is sad but if you are a manager and you have a white candidate with a college degree and a black candidate without a college of course you will hire the white one. Unfortunately this creates more inequality and does not help the black community to prosper. The goverment know does have some programs in place to help the less financial fortunate people to get a education. It does include whites to with no financial means.
Off course we all treat each other with respect, but they usually do not mix themselves, so there is a natural separation. Discrimination about race it is not discuss publicly or even on the TV or music as you see her in the USA. If discrimination happens, it is more under the radar. you don't see it. If happens, you don't know. I do not see them have pride of their race and who they are. It does not have the sense of pride that I see here in the USA. If you think about it, they started that country. The Africans and the indians that were there, plus the criminals that Portugal sent to Brazil, but you do not see the sense of pride. They do have very strong sense of religion. The majority follows the african religion and Gods that were brought to Brazil. Again, we do treat them nice we are not disrespectful in any way, but socially there is a huge difference because they do not have to many opportunities and the financial means. Their parents probably did not have an education, the grand parents most likely were slaves. It is sad, but history comes into play when you analize the social difference between a white person and a black person. We do not have the same things that happen her in the USA. We all take the same bus, we all go to the same schools, we have free hospitals for everybody, but for them to get ahead they need to be able to get to a college. Colleges in Brazil are very expensive. We do not have easy access for all the financial loans there are here for example. Even a white person has problem to pay for a college. We do have a hand I mean really hand of colleges for free, but they are very difficult to get in, and there is not enought room if you considere an entire population. I hope this helps.

(I live in Morocco)

Morocco's native inhabitants (known as Berbers, but properly "Amazigh") who were here before the Arabs are typically darker-skinned. Some have South Asian looking features, others look Sub-Saharan African (black). Still others strangely have light hair and blue eyes.

In Morocco, as in most Arab countries, lighter skin is thought to be better. Women use products like "Fair & Lovely" to lighten their skin, and men prefer light-skinned women. That said, black or darker-skinned Moroccans aren't typically discriminated against in terms of work or opportunity.

On the other hand, Morocco has seen an influx of Sub-Saharan Africans in the past few years (most of whom are making their way to Europe), and lately, I've witnessed some discrimination toward those people. I can't say whether it's because they're black or because they're taking Moroccan jobs from Moroccans though. I suspect it has more to do with taking jobs (Morocco has 20% unemployment) though.

In conclusion, to answer your final question - Black Moroccans are treated as Moroccans, completely and thoroughly. And any truly practicing Muslim would not be racist. Africans from other countries, however, are treated as foreigners, regardless of how long they've lived here.

Please do your homework earlier than pointing hands. Not that pointing hands solves something. The purpose Africa is tousled is the equal purpose the US is tousled. 1884The Berlin Conference.
