it should auto work if not then the cdr may not be the right format , there is CD-R and CD+R. your dvd player can prob only play + or - and that is why you can't make it work.

Depends.
Some DVD players plays other format like VCD, CD, MP3 and some not.
So chech the manual or just try burn a CD as VCD then see wheter it can be played or not.

for my DVD player I just put it in and push play....mine works just fine.

most new ones will play it, but to be safe use no multi-session when recording.

you can only play pictures or music off it. not video or music + pictures etc.
