You could go with a few guys such as Mike Piazza, Ken Griffey Jr., Gary Sheffield, Alex Rodriquez, David Ortiz, Lance Berkman, and Frank Thomas just to name a few.

This is hands down Alex Rodriguez. He will hit his 500th home run this year while turning 32. He has a slight down year .290/.914/35/121 by his standards which was cause by the pressures of playing in NY and Shetfield and Matsui being gone most of the year. Barring a major injury he could play 10 more years and own nearly every offensive record especially if he can get out of NY. 11 season of 100 runs, 2 of 200 hits, 10 years of 35+ HR, 4 Years of 45+, 10 years of 100+ RBIs, 7 years of .300 BA, 5 Years of 1.000 OPS. The numbers are incrediable. His numbers were hurt a little because he has to cover more ground at 3b than any other third basemen.

If you are saying for a career and still active then Ken Griffey Jr. is the best look at his numbers. He has 563 HR's, 2412 hits, 1608 RBI, .291 BA and .557 SLG. Piazza is not even close. Not to mention all of his gold gloves.

I was really thinking about it, till that guy mentioned Ty Cobb, hands down it's him. No matter what the other stats are, the average effects getting the overall job done. Who better then the all time leader in batting average? He may of played dirty, but there is a reason he is a hall of famer.

Are we talking about all time, or currently?

Because currently, it would have to be Albert Pujols. Maybe Ryan Howard if he repeats what he did last year.

Edit: Remember, I'm talking about right this instant. Piazza might've been productive in his prime, but not so much now though he still has some pop. Pujols and Howard may very well lead the NL in various statistics this year.

I can't stand it when people think that productive hitters just have to hit home runs!! Its not all about home runs!! Look at Derek Jeter....he averages 15-20 HR's a season but almost 2200 hits....and he is only 32! He also has a .317 lifetime average...yeah maybe he only has 183 HR's but I think his hits make up for it.....

Ty Cobb lifetime average of .367, 297 triples, 4,191 hits, 12 batting titles including nine in a row. 23 straight seasons in which he hit over .300, three .400 seasons topped by a .420 mark in 1911, and 2,245 runs. Stole 892 bases. He did something more once ge got on base as well.

Incredible how people give props to guys who haven't even played 1,000 games yet. Howard has one monster year and he gets a mention?? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

You've got Piazza, numbers above.
Sheffield - 6th among active players in runs scored AND RBI, 8th in HR's, .297 lifetime average.

You've got Griffey who would be more of a monster if he wasn't hurt so frequently. David Oritz, Manny Ramirez, AROD, Frank Thomas .... all in the top 10 active in HR's, RBI's, BA, etc. etc. And all except for Thomas have another few great years left in their careers.

Get a clue people!!!!!!!!!

Tony Gwynn

He struck out only 434 times in 9,288 career at-bats, and never batted below .309 in any full season, although he hit .289 in his rookie season.

16 time all star.

No doubt about it...most productive player ever.
