Several reasons:
1. Wal-Mart uses its sheer size to strong-arm ridiculously low wholesale concessions on the products they buy and shelve. This often puts many wholesalers out of business, or in an unhealthy financial state.
2. Wal-Mart's retail operations generally locate into small to midsize communities and devour consumer demand in those communities very quickly. This puts many smaller retailers out of business that cant support similar pricing. Its not only a monopolistic play, it also erodes the sense of small community business that is essential to commerce and local culture.
Its obvious that Wal-Mart shouldnt be attacked for being superb at what they do. The problem is more cultural than anything else. Americans (probly others) love a good deal. The danger is in creating a virtual monopoly on consumer retailing that can ultimately control what people buy and the prices they buy them. Its bad for consumers in the long run (kind of like a deal with the devil), terrible for small businesses, and very very erosive of the the local culture that adds so much to communities.

It's not so much a matter of trust, it's a question of their ethical behavoir when it comes to their treatment of employees and suppliers.
In addition, there is concern that these types of superstores crush competition in areas where they locate because smaller stores simply can not compete with their prices. That may sound good for the consumer, but ultimately no competition is bad for the consumer because the consumer only has the choices of what Wal-Mart stocks. Let's say you like a particular brand of clothing or a band. Wal-Mart decides that they don't want to stock that brand or carry the band's cd. Where do you go to buy what you want AND where does the clothing company and the band sell their stuff that they know people want (yeah, the internet, but that won't replace the neighborhood store just yet)?

Because it is a corrupt corporation. They purpously try to put other business out of business. Here's a very simple example. A local business will buy a shovel for $10 at cost. THey will sell that shovel for $15, and make a $5 profit. Then Wal Mart moves into town. They sell the exact same shovel for $8, causing themselves to have a $2 loss. But, they drive the market to buy from Wal Mart and the local business will not be able to sell their shovels. After the local business goes under, they jack up the price to make a profit. Now, imagine all of the merchandise in Wal Mart. Now, imagine all of the local businesses near a Wal Mart that have gone under. EVIL CORPORATION. The Walton Family is EVIL.

Because they do not treat their employees very well. I heard that they fired someone because they put a pen in their pocket while they were working and when they left they forgot about it and left with it in their pocket so they fired them for stealing, instead of politely stating that it's slow right now and they need to downsize, they make their employees feel like thieves. I cannot trust anyone who isn't completely honest with their employees. Not being completely honest tells me you are hiding something.
