Jeb Bush thought he could advance in the political world by studying and weighing the issues and being a good manager. George realized he could get elected by affecting a cowboy persona, think accent and a born again religiosity.

Jeb went to private schools and did a lot of travel into Mexico. The state of Florida also does not have a heavy southern accent for the most part. George did most of his adult life in Texas which definitely has a strong Texas southern accent.

Im originally from Florida. I had no accent growing up there. Then I moved to Houston and lived there for nine years. I moved back to Florida, and it took me two years to lose the Texas accent I had picked up over there. It happens. Too many people in Florida are from the north. There really isn't a "southern accent" there.

If you think that George Bush has a super thick Southern accent you haven't really heard any Southern accents yet.
George lived in Texas for many years, which I imagine contributed to his accent.

I'm from Texas and I have trained myself to not have the accent. certainly NOT because I'm ashamed of my roots, hell no! I just wanted to be in radio when I was younger and removed the accent. These days, no one cares in radio what you sound like. My siblings have varying degrees of accents. I suspect that since Jeb is not living in Texas, he has adopted a dialiect more to Florida. My sister lives in Colorado and does not have a big Texas accent. My other sister lives in Louisiana and I can't understand a word she says. lol
Now, does it matter?

Politicians fake an accent depending on where they are speaking. George Bush wants to pose as a Texan in spite of the fact that he is from Connecticut.

Dubya affects the accent to make himself sound like a down-home texas boy that the average guy could 'have a beer' with.
Because thats important - we don't care if our president is educated, or up to speed on current events, or able to make decisions without having to rely on questionable 'advisors'.
As long as he's somebody we could 'have a beer with'.

Well George has lived his adult life in Texas....Jeb in Florida. I would think that the Florida melting pot could certainly influence his speech patterns.
