I am moving into a new apartment in May with poured concrete walls. What do I need in order to hang paintings and my large flat-screen television? Is it something my fiance and I can handle or should we hire somebody to do it? HELP PLEASE!

You need a masonary bit. they sell them at hardware stores. Do you have a Drill? You'll need one. The two of you can handle it.

You need a drill bit designed for concrete. Once you have that it is a piece of cake. You two can handle it easily. These bits are inexpensive. Goto a hardware store and tell them you need this bit and that you want to put screws into concrete. I forget what they are called but they will give you a tapered plastic piece with threads on the inside. You pound the piece into the holes in the wall and then screw in the bolts you plan to hang your TV on. If the concrete is old and crumbling don't hang your TV on that wall. Build a VERY think entertainment center that is similar to a picture frame on legs. Bolt the legs to the floor so it doesn't topple..that way you won't need a wide base at the bottom..that would defeat the whole concept of a thin TV.

You will need a drill and a masonry bit. You will probably need at least two sizes of bits (a large one for the big screen TV). For everything but the TV, buy plastic anchors with screws. If you need more than one size you will need additional bits. The bits should about the size of the anchors. The screw will expand the anchor to fit snugly in the hole. For the big screen TV, ask for advice at your local hardware store. I have never hung anything that large. Also, expect to have a big mess from all of the concrete dust. It is also advisable to wear safety glasses and a mask (the plain cheap utility masks will work). Hope this helps!

for hanging pictures etc just a regular drill with concrete bits would work.

for hanging your flat screen TV hire someone professional who insures their work. Heres the reason why. Should something happen where it falls off the wall because it wasnt hung properly etc then you would be SOL if you did it yourself. Now if you hired someone and it fell a month or 6 later then itll be cover, provided they have insurance and they warrenty their work. Some contractors dont so be careful.

You need to use a drill with a carbide bit and cement anchors. A hammer drill is best but a regular one will work just take longer. You might consider putting in a picture hanging rail, so you don't have to drill holes all the time.

Is it just concrete painted? or drywall over concrete? bare concrete? bare concrete is very ugly!. But just rent a hammer drill and an 1/8th concrete bit, maybe a little larger for the television. Then you can get some concrete anchors or tapcons, tapcons work well they are blue but kind of expensive.

you may need a small size hammer drill may be 10mm or 13mm is suitable for household, some bits ( especially for concrete ) with different sizes ( 5mm - 6mm - 8mm ) , some screws with suitable thickness ( letter L shape ) , with plastic cotter , and when you start drilling holes , you should :
- make a little deep and small hole exactly in the place you want to drill in with a hammer and a metal pin just to keep the drill not to move from the place you drill in while drilling .
- when you start drilling hold the drill tight with both of your hands .
- make it strait and horizontal .
- start drilling in slower speed .
- try to adjust the deep of the hole according to screws linght
- if you want more informations , just e-mail me and i'll be glad to help you .

I would suggest checking with the landlord first. You can rent hammer drills that will drill the holes. The size of hole and anchors depends on the weight of the object being hung. These can be purchased where you rent the drill.

A hammer-drill with a masonary bit is just what you need. It will drill into that concrete like butter.

You can buy an inexpensive hammer drill for around $80.

Don't do it unless you get permission from the landlord 1st. You will forfeit your lease and deposit if you don't.
