I connect to the internet via dial-up modem. My connection keeps dropping me after I have been online for about 90 minutes, even if I am not idle. I am pretty computer savvy, but this one has me stumped, because I have done everything that I know of to disable idle timers, manage call waiting, modem settings, etc.

Any tech-heads know how can I stop being automatically disconnected?

Since it occurs after 90 minutes,it sounds as if your ISP has limited your consecutive on line time..If you wait 5minutes and then are able to go back on line, that probably is the reason..I suspect with so many dial up ISP's offering free trials & low initial pricing, that the competition causes some restrictions.. I encountered the same problem with my first ISP, except that they would flash an announcement that the service would shut down in five minutes.. If that is the case the 90 min limitation was probably in the program you downloaded, making it impossible for you to remove.. Contact your ISP and insist on knowing if that is the case, even if they deny it, they may remove it..You also may want to completely remove the original program and download it again from a different disc or on line program..Good luck..

Does it always happen at exactly 90 minutes?

Or does it vary, sometimes dropping way early, sometimes lasting a long time?

If not, it may be a default timer that your ISP has set up. Once you hit a certain amount of time, the computer you dial up to boots you. I would call them and ask if that is something they do.

Sounds like your ISP is dropping you or your modem is broken. You can try to set it on auto-dial on disconnect,, you can use keep-alive programs (anything to stop the network from being idle, like Yahoo mesemger or weather-bug etc). Or call your ISP see if they have a limit, or try a diff modem first.

Yeah, come to the 21st century and get some broadband. It's likely that you can't solve this problem, as it could just be a bad telephone line, which you can't fix.

I would reccomend dropping them and get high speed if you can. if you cant try diff. numbers or service. or call your isp and demand help or you will cancel. believe me they dont want you to cancel cuz dial-up is fading away and they dont want to lose your biz.
