What is the problem here? Why are people defending the Bush administrations, almost paranoid secrecy, on an issue that has nothing to do with national security? Bush fought the 9/11 investigations, when his own party was in control of both houses of Congress. When did conservatives become afraid of open government? I want to know what the hell is going on and I don't want someone to walk out of a smokey room and tell me. I want open government!

Flaming, If there is nothing to hide, why act like there is something to hide? I don't trust any politicians. Not Bush or any other politician. I want open government!

Bush is making this a big deal. If there is nothing to hide, don't drag this out. Simply admit that the people have a right to open government and none of his people are afraid to appear under oath and/or that a transcript be kept of the meetings. I don't see the problem here!

Sane, You apparently have very little faith in our form of government. Or what was once our form of government. Once again, if there is nothing to hide, why act you have something to hide?

One of the great things about American Democracy is that we get the kind of government we deserve.

I believe in open government or even as Thomas Paine said: "Given the choice or government without newspapers or newspapers without government: I would choose the latter."

It IS a big deal. Bush says Rove can go testify as long as the conditions are OK for him to LIE. Why can't he be under oath?

This is no "witch hunt." The Whitewater investigations, now that was more like a witch hunt. The whole idea that the conservatives, who perfected the idea of endlessly harrassing an administration with trivial investigations, can make this charge against the dems is ludicrous.

Sure the attorneys served "at the pleasure" of the administration. Yes they can fire them if they please. But they should have a good reason. You don't give someone a glowing performance review and then turn around and fire them for poor performance. Especially if that will have the effect of hindering an investigation that makes you uncomfortable. Nobody is saying the AG shouldn't be able to fire the US Attorneys, he just shouldn't be able to fire them for purely political reasons and then lie about it.

The Republicans have had the stated aim of making a "permanent Republican majority." That is to say "one party rule" ... as in the USSR or China. We can't let it happen here. The administration has to be open and accountable.

What we're seeing is a liberal "witch hunt." It's a total waste of drummed up charges that hold no substance and make total donkeys out of the democrats. When will they ever do something besides gripe and complain about all their fasle illusions?! THe last time I checked the President's officials had the right to hire and fire anyone they so pleased even if the power-hungry liberals didn't like it! These libs think everyone one must bow down and get their permission to blink! What control freaks! And they say "Democrats serve the people." Yeah, right!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your answer is in this question. Why are the libs hellbent on persecuting every republican they can think up a charge on? This whole thing about the lawyers being fired is a non-issue, yet these moron libs continue to waste our time and money with their nonesense witch hunts just like Libby and just like the 9/11 commission to mention just two of a long list.

I could not agree with you more on this. Both sides are out to get the other and each have their share of crooks. Desperately need to keep out the unethical and crooked with an open government.

Relax, you could be living in Russia under Putin and be jailed for posting this, or live in China and be forced to make an "organ donation".....
