I have a friend who is 33 weeks pregnant. She didn't find out she was pregnant until she was about 1 and a half months along and so she didn’t change her lifestyle until then. She smoked pot about 3 times during the month and a half she was unaware and she smoked cigarettes. She quit smoking anything as soon as she found out she was pregnant. Now we are wondering if what she did dung the first month and a half of pregnancy will effect the baby’s health in anyway.

Tell your friend not to worry. During the beginning of period is known as a grace period, b/c most things will not connect with your growing fetus. Later when the placenta has developed, pot and alcohol cross the placenta and can potentially damage your fetus. In early pregnancy, there is no placenta, so the mother's body is pre-processing everything that your baby gets--and your body won't deliver that pot smoke. Everyone makes mistakes--but don 't let her beat herself up about it--she's not likely to have caused a single bit of harm to her baby--especially if she's quit since that point.
