I will be 37 weeks and 4 days tomorrow. I am thinking about asking my doctor to strip the membranes? Anyone else have it done. What was it like? How soon after did you go into labor? Thanks so much!!!

I had it done twice, once on my due date, once a week later, if I remember correctly. It didn't hurt, there was just a tiny bit of pressure for a second. And neither time caused me to go into labor, because the baby was in the wrong position and would not drop. I ended up having a c-section a few days later.

My sister-in-law had hers stripped on the the day after her due date (I think), so like...the day before Thanksgiving, and she went into labor at WalMart, during the after-Thanksgiving sale.

I think at 37 weeks, your doctor probably won't do it, especially if it's a first baby. You'd be better off waiting another two weeks and then asking, if he hasn't done it already. If your baby isn't ready to come out yet, stripping won't really make any difference, except probably causing your mucous plug to start coming out.

Good luck, and congratulations on the coming baby!
