If the patch gave you seizures the first thing you should do is talk to you Gyn about the best option for you. Together with your medical history and a few questions she should be able to recommend the best solutions.

I recently switched from the pill (for 3 years) to NuvaRing. I was skeptical about it staying in at first, but my Gyn assured me it was a good option and that she thought very highly of it for girls like me (very busy, irregular sleep schedule, don't always get a chance to take the pill at the same time every day)

The ring is a flexible clear plastic ring about 2 inches in diameter. To insert it you just squeeze it into an oval shape and gently push it into your vaginal cavity. The exact location within the vagina does not affect its effectiveness. I can feel it for about the first 5 minutes after inserting a new ring at the end of the month, but my body quickly ignores the feeling.

I have found that it stays put QUITE well, no problems with it falling out during strenous exercise, rough sex or anything. The pamphlet says it MAY fall out during sex or when straining for a bowel movement, but if it does you just clean it off and put it back in within 3 hours and you're fine. So I always check its placement after sex. Another thing to note is its not possible for it to get pushed TOO FAR up like during sex so that is not a concern.

After wearing it for 3 weeks you simple hook it around the tip of your finger and pull it out. Go a week without wearing one and then put a new one in.

According to my Gyn it actually has a lower dose of hormones because of the ease which hormones can pass through vaginal walls into the blood stream.

Recent studies on Depo have shown that it increases chance of osteoporosis dramatically, not good since women have issues with that anyway. It has also been found that it can take up to 18 months for fertility to return after stopping depo. Fertility generally returns within a month on the pill or the ring.

For me personally: the pill was nice, but a bit bothersome to remember. I love being on the ring.

My girlfriend is on the pill and has been for six-seven months now. It has worked fine. She just takes a pill everyday at a certain time and thats that. The pill has also made her boobs bigger which is nice. :)
I have seen the commercials for "the ring" and to be honest I don't think I'd trust that to stay in there but thats just me.
If you had seizures you should ask your doctor about different pills that youd be less likely to have seizures with. There are hundreds of different types of bitrh controll pills. I have seen lists. Sorry but I have never heard of "depo." I would say try the pill. I think there is a shot you can get once a month but most people dont like shots :(
I would say go with the pill.

A little long-winded but.....

I've been using birth control for over 20 years. I got pregnant with the diaphragm, and had an IUD puncture my uterus, which needed surgical removal. Also the IUD is not intended for women who have not had at least ONE full-term pregnancy, so this may not even be an option. After that I stuck to the hormonal methods and have been happy.

I've heard good & bad about the ring. Some women love it, others can't tolerate it. It does require that you are very intimate with your own body, so be aware. It also quickly loses effectiveness if its out of your vagina for over 3 hours (like if it falls out and you don't notice).
I personally used the shot for over 5 years and would still be on it if my insurance still covered it. I didn't have ANY adverse side effects AND I also had no period (yeah!).
I've also used the pill extensively. If you decide on the pill, I recommend using a mono-phasic type (one chemical all month long) like LoEstrin or YAZ or Yasmin. The tri-phasics tend to be less effective (about 2% more so) and can cause far more side effects like breakthrough bleeding, because you're taking a different chemical every single week of your cycle.
I'm currently on YAZ and have lost nearly 15 lbs. I also have gone from having a 7-8 day period to spotting only 2 days. NICE.

Whatever you do, I strongly recommend that you sit down with your health professional and have them help you make an educated decision. Not every method is going to be right for every woman and it may take a little experimentation on your part to find one that works well for you.

Good luck.

Don't do depo. It makes almost everyone gain weight like crazy. It also made me mean as a junk yard dog. I was on a few different types of the pill. Once I found one that worked for me, I loved it. It took several tries, though. Talk with you doc about your options. Since you have a history of seizures with the patch, they may want you to avoid some others, too. A low dose pill may be a good option. I am on Mirena now, and I love it. It is mainly for women who have at least one child, though. I don't know if that applies to you.

I'm so glad you got off the patch that thing is bad news. Here is my take on it. With the pill you do have to take it every day and if you take it every once and awhile it's pretty much useless. The ring is a clear plastic bracelet looking contraceptive that you insert that rest just below your cervix. Over the coarse of a month it released a slow dose of estrogen through the poris ring. It can be a bit uncomfortable and kind weird at first, but to this date it's one of the safest and easiest methods of contraceptive. I don't speak to highly of the Depo shot only because allot of women have had allot of problems with it. That includes frequent bladder infections, excess water retention, weight gain, and increased chlamydia infection. And that its a shot you have to get every three months. I can't say that anything I suggested will work best for you, but I hope it has helped. Thanks.

Nuvaring is a small flexible plastic ring(similar to an o-ring bracelet) that is inserted vaginally and kept in for 3 weeks. You take it out and leave it out for 1 week(which is simliar to the placebo pills in an oral contraceoption pack), and then start with a new ring 1 week later.
Recent research has shown that hormonal contraceptives don't work as well for heavier women; they need higher levels of estrogen than their thinner counterparts. If that affects you, let your doctor know so you can get a form of birth control with higher estrogen.

there are such an outstanding form of kinds of pills accessible. each person receives different detrimental consequences and what may healthful one individual completely could provide somebody else terrible detrimental consequences. once you be sure to go back on the pill then ask your well being care specialist about attempting one that is usual for far less detrimental consequences. I dont understand what pill you've been on yet Microgynon is a very frequently prescribed pill besides the indisputable fact that it has a tendency to have extra detrimental consequences than others mutually with Yasmin (which they first called the 'sense solid' pill because an outstanding form of human beings really get on with it) or cilest. solid success

Depo is awful, I gained nearly 30lbs on it (and I'm naturally slim and never gained weight before, apart from being pregnant!), it's also bad for moods and after too long usage it can make you infertile. It is used in different doses for chemical sterilisation of criminals.

I use the mirena iud. It's fantastic, no need to remember stuff every day, it can stay in for up to 5 years, you can get pregnant the same month it's removed, you can have an old one out and a new one in without needing a break, NO periods (yay!) and no hormonal side effects (the pill gives me morning sickness for example).

Ask your doctor for some leaflets about each method, have a good read through them and then go back to discuss the pro's and con's of each with him/her and any worries or questions you may have about any of them.

Until you decide, use condoms. Ideally condoms should be used on top of any other method to protect from STD's, as no other method can protect you from those. Only stop using them when you are in a long term and monogamous relationship :)

Well, I have been taking Yasmin and LOVE it. I used to take Ortho Trycycline Lo and I blew up like a pig. Not joking. I gained 25 pounds months before my wedding!!!! I was not happy all. But shortly after I got married, I was like.... "I am not taking this pill anymore. I am a heffer!" However I got pregnant and got even bigger! After the baby, I worked my butt off and lost ALL my weight plus I am on yasmin and have not gained a pound. If I did, I would not take it anymore. As far as the Ring or IUD's, I will not use them. The thought of something stuck up there is not appealing to me. It actually sounds sick. Plus they need to be changed and replaced occasionally and who wants to get naked all the time infront of a doctor. Once a year is enough for me thank you! =)
