The pros are that they are adorable, loving, fun pets with more personality than most people think! They aren't expensive to keep since they don't need preventative veterinary care or shots.

Contrary to what the house rabbit people will tell you, checkups are unnecessary. Most vets aren't even trained in rabbit medicine and if they have a health problem, an observant owner will know it! They do eat a certain type of their own droppings, however this is to consume nutrients produced in their own digestive tract and NOT a sign of illness or nutritional deficiency. I've been a show breeder for 16 years and made relatively few trips to the vet for the number of rabbits I've had over those years. Most show breeders know that unless the rabbits are in excellent health, they won't do well on the show table and therefore work very hard to keep them healthy.

The cons are that they do chew things in the house. Their teeth grow continually and you can't "break" them of this. Also, you'll have to change their litterbox or dropping tray at least every other day to keep the smell down. Rabbit urine has a strong ammonia odor. They can be kept outside which won't harm them or shorten their life expectancy (cottontails and jackrabbits do just fine all across North America) but you will need to provide them with protection from sun, wind and neighborhood animals.

Having a pet of any sort... it's really nice coming home to them if you live alone. They take me away from TV which is great. On the other hand, it can get expensive depending on the animal (food, care, shelter, hospital fees) and you have to find people to pet sit if you're away on vacation.
Good luck, mini lops are so cute!

I have rabbits and there aren't many things I don't like I guess the worst would be cleaning the cage. If I were you I would get the Mini Rex. They are sooo soft. Most are sweet.

The different kind of bunnies really dont make TOO much of a difference. Thats all just personal preference. However bunnies in general require alot of cleaning - they tend to be on the smellier side. They require a place in your house or room that is draft free, not too hot and not too cold away from any larger animals. If you keep them clean, feed them properly and excercise them they are great pets to have. Also be sure to clip their nails - sometimes they can get sharp :)

The bunny isn't a very good pet because they are not very loving. The only pros is that they are trainable and don't make a lot of noise. you can teach them things. They will leave pellets all over your home and you have to clean their cage often and it smells. They do bit if they are not used to being handled. This pet takes up a lot more time than some other pet. Also I would give mine baths to keep down the smell. But he didn't like it and would fight me.

I have bunnies, and I love them! I only approve of indoor homes for rabbits. If you get a rabbit with the right temperment, they can be very affectionate. They are easy to litter box train.
You have to cover all of your electrical wires- they will chew right through them if you don't.

from my experience, and from the rabbit book i read, rabbits have to go to the vet very frequently. if a rabbit starts to eat its poo, then it is having nutrition deficiencies, and needs to see the vet! Rabbits can be fun, but make sure they dont jump out of your hands when you hold them! pros: they make great pets, and they live a good 7-10 years. cons: if you have other animals make sure they wont eat the bunny, dogs and cats would harm a rabbit. ferrets, questionable.

I gotta go with the poop for a diadvantage, pros are they are sweet and cuddly.....they also really "like" other bunnies and will make more bunnies.....but if you are going for it I just wanted to let you know that most animal shelters have lots and lots of bunnies...so maybe take a look there first....JMO

Pro's

*they can be cuddled and held fairly easy unless they are viscous
*you train them to do things
*You can have them indoors or outdoors
*They are fairly easy to breed from
*They eat most vegetables as they are vegetarians
*They can help mow the grass!
*They are fairly quiet peaceful animals

Con's

*You have to clean their hutch out at least once or twice a week
*It costs quite alot for bedding, food, hay ect
*If it's outside in the winter you have to go out in the freezing cold to feed, water, clean the hutch.
*You need a second bigger hutch/run/cage so they can have some excercise and freedom
*If you don't want to breed and you have a male and female you need to have one of them neutered

Hope I helped, those are the pro's and con's I can think of now.
