Bernie turned down a minor league contract which should have never been offered to a man of his stature.

It's just hard for Bernie to say good by to something he loves so much.

Bernie is done in the sence of playing but not if he came back. After last year, he showed he still has some gas in the tank. The Yankees offered him a non-roster spring training invite which he declined. There is no room for him on the Yankees with their first baseman platoon and 12/13 pitchers in the bullpen. Bernie doesn't want to play anywhere but NY and if they don't want him, he is going to hang thme up. However he is still working out just in case there are injuries and he is signed to fill in.

Just when you think baseball is a kids game reality slaps you up side the head. The Yankees did not handle this situation very well. You don't offer a minor league contract to someone who is one of the all time great Yankees. His numbers rank high on the list of several Yankee categories and that entitled him to a better fate than a "don't call us we'll call you" contract.

Baseball, as great a game as it is, is still a business but this time business got in the way of what could have been a happy ending to a wonderful story. Bernie saved their bacon more than once last year and offering him a spot DH would have been the right thing to do.

Call me old fashion but loyalty seems to be a forgotten virtue.

Just recently, Williams' ageny Scott Boras released a statement saying Bernie has no intention to retire. However, the Yankees have no intention of signing him, and Bernie apparently has no intentions of going to another team and at this point he probably isn't big league ready(he hasn't been in MLB shape since last season. In conclusion, although it might not be official Bernie's career is burnt.

He chose not ot attend Spring Training as a non roster invitee. He's probably sulking in Puerto Rico. If one of the Outfielders go down you might seen the resurrection of Bernie.

OMG Bernie is my favorite. I have over 500 pictures of him. I dont think he is going to come back for the Yanks and he probably wont play for anyone else. I think he is done. I was so surprised to find someone actually asking a question about my BERN BERN. I am in tears. I miss him so much. I wish he wasn't done either. Maybe we both could see him play his guitar some place in the future. Thanks for asking the question. Someone else out there loves my Bern to.
