He SHOULD support his son. There is nothing wrong with asking for child support at all.

Your story has some holes in it. If the father knows his son, then you should have gotten child support when you two split up.

Is your ex now living a better life than you are? If you are concerned about your son's future are you going to put this money in a trust fund until he's 18?

I get the feeling that you have another reason for doing this.

I also provided for my daughter for 16 years of her life before taking her dad for child support. You are entitled to back child support as well (from the date of birth).....you provided for him financially, emotionally all these years and are now on disability, absolutely get what is due you. Good luck and blessings.

being a single mother myself... why should he not pay. I know that is was not easy to raise your son financially alone. I can't believe he had it so easy for the last fifteen years...did you?
I not saying to take him to the cleaners or anything but he should have out of the kindness of his heart and because he is the boys father been helping you all along .... good luck and remember you have nothing to feel guilty about.

As long as you are doing it for you son.
Have the father stand up to his responsibility you did it for the past 15 years let him take the next 5 years which will be the easier 5 years by far!

This isn't going to be easy. If your on disability they take into account any outside sources of income, and you will probably loose all around. Your disability won't change your ability to provide for your son and depending on how your divorce went down you may not get anything but a headache.

There's nothing wrong with that. I don't know why anyone would think you were selfish for wanting your sons father to help you take care of your son.

your 15 year old son's father should have been paying child support all along. it's the LAW! and that, my dear, is all the reason you need!

p.s. don't feel "selfish"... it took two of you to create this child and it's BOTH your responsibility to look after him....

Why were you not getting child support all along?

If your divorce decree lets you ex husband off without paying child support, your chances of going back after so many years and getting it changed are slim and none.

the reasons are a moot point (it doesnt matter), for the funds are owed, not matter what.

gone are the days of ditching the child, or hiding til the child hits 18, today, child support is forever.

you deserve those funds, for all of the years of supporting the child alone. and if anyone tells you different, tell them its called "Child SUPPORT" .... NOT.... "Child TRUST FUND".
