I was 17 when I also had a reduction to abnormal size breast and I was also the only one in the family with this issue. It is something that I have never regretted. Yes it is painful at first, but your doctors will give you medication for that. There will be alot of bruising and it will be very back and purple. Also remember that it will take time to heal. Make sure that you buy a very nice soft bath towel to use after surgery. Having large breast will cause back problems, shoulder problems, and headaches. These were all things that went away for me after surgery. Also it will be nice to buy normal size clothing. I cried when I bought my first shirt after surgery. But remember that your new breast will be going through alot of changes with the swelling and healing and you should not buy any new clothes till about 6 months after surgery. Good luck

For me, it hurt somewhat the first two weeks or so, but it really wasn't bad. I also had no complications, and my recovery went well (my wounds closed and healed nicely, etc.) Make sure you have a good plastic surgeon who has done breast reductions reductions before. See if there is a previous patient of the surgeon that you can talk to. With mine, they ended up having to take out some of my glands in my breasts, so I mostly will not be able to breast feed when I have kids. I have "anchor" scars that are not all that visable after five years. My nipples had to be moved as well, but my areolas were so large previously that they made them more "normal" sized and repositioned them, but the scars are nonexistent and they look so pretty to me!! I had to stay overnight in the hospital because of asthma and anesthetic conerns, and the next morning they removed the drains they had put in. These probably helped my healing as well. I had this done for medical reasons. Scoliosis wasn't an issue, but I was having severe back and shoulder pain since I had been 13, and it was getting to the point where medication didn't help a bit. In addition, it was messing with my asthma and my ability to breathe and do anything aerobic. Since I am much smaller in the chest area (I am around a small B/C cup), I can breathe and do so many more things. The side benifit is having fun shopping for cute little bras and fitting into swimming suits.
On more thing - I had stronger pain meds while I was in the hospital for 24 hours, but after that, I only took extra strength tylenol for the next week.

Well I do have to commend you on getting help for yourself on this one. So many girls are afraid to say anything and people are so quick to judge because we live in a society where "bigger is better". I had a breast reduction about 5 years ago and it was the best thing I could have EVER done. I was 19 almost 20 at the time and I wish I had done it years before when I asked my doctors for it and they all denied me. To honest, don't be scared. My mother was more worried than I was, I was so excited about it. Just don't be shy with yor doctors (they will see EVERYTHING anyway), tell them what bothers you, go over every option and procedure since there are several ways to operate. As for the pain, I'm a big baby and felt very little pain, actually. The discomfort was horrible, though. You have no upper body strength so you will need help getting up, going to the restroom, and please don't lift anything. I'm a stomach sleeper so sleeping on my back was unpleasant. But worth every minute. Do everything your doctor tells you during recovery, its for your own good! I was out of the hospital the next day, in a normal bra within 2 weeks and back in aerobics class at the end of the month. That's not typical, I was pretty lucky, but the pain is relatively small compared to a lifetime of pain and problems. Good luck!!!!

Hi, wow...sounds like you could use a little support!
My mom had breast reduction a couple years ago. She said it was no big at all. She looked pretty bruised and stitchy but, there was hardly any scar when it healed and she felt so great after. Try not to be scared! I will be praying for you!

I had no pain after my surgery. Just discomfort.
Good luck, this surgery is so worth it.

There should be no cost your family's medical insurance should pay for it. I am a mammography tech and see this procedure all the time and it is worthwhile if you are suffering from back pain.

Well, it is surgery so it won't be a walk in the park. But you'll be fine. You'll be sore afterwards, but they'll give you medicine for it.
