I've noticed in some cities that it's a good idea to go to lunch at 11:30 since everyone wants to go to lunch at 12 and all the tables are gone - is it the same in a big city like Chicago?

It's pretty much like that here too. People start out at 11:30 and most places are still crowded at 2:30. it was so bad when i first started working downtown that I stopped going out to lunch because I couldn't take the lines.

It's not as unbearable in downtown Chicago because there are SO many places to eat. Your best bet is to find a building with a food court like the Thompson Center, Merchandise Mart, etc. There are usually six or seven places so you always have alternatives. Guess it also depends on what you like to eat. Me, I don't really go to lunch anymore. i used to hit Subway, Burger King, etc. But now I hit the gym for an hour, then eat an apple or banana afterwards and I'm done. Those sandwiches were starting to add up!

I would say 11:00 or 1:45. I dont know about everyone else but I always buy my food and bring it back to work. So I wouldnt need a table.

Just go when you are hungry. Anyway, it is more fun to see all the people out-and-about.
