You can use a Firefox add-on to download the Flash video file: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2584/ ; or, it is possible to download the Flash video file indirectly. It does require "decompiling" the YouTube or Google player file to determine the location of the actual video. http://www.sothink.com/product/flashdecompiler/ is the most popular Flash decompiler.

Once you've downloaded the video file via either method, you can likely decompile it as well, which will give you access to the raw movie file clip. You can then either bring it back in to Flash (http://www.adobe.com/flash ) or use a program like Sorenson (http://www.sorensonmedia.com/ ) to save the video file as an AVI or MOV.

Also, keep in mind that it's probably against their terms of service and they would be within their right to sue.

If you're using Mozilla Firefox (which you should be if saving avi and mov off of youtube or google video is an important part of web browing for you for this reason:) you should download and install an extension called "Ook? Video Ook!" It gives you a one click solution to saving videos off of any webpage, very handy :).
