Friend, that's no fuel pump. That's a twisted cam shaft.

You're vehicle has jumped timing. Usually, although there are exceptions, when this happens, the strain it places on your cam shaft are too great, and it will turn it at one end. You will need to take it to a certified mechanic, but I can virtually guarantee that's what your problem is.

Oh........the cost to fix something of this nature? $800 - $1500, depending on the make/model of vehicle.

Could be a number of things. The things you should check are the main things a car needs, air, fuel, spark. Could also be the timing belt has skipped a tooth if it has one.

if its a newer vehicle, like 96 up i would say to check the camshaft position sensor of the crank shaft position sensor there easy cheap fixes but they make like its something serious.
