we will be lucky to see another repeat champ at best. even 3 in a row will NEVER EVER HAPPEN. with the state of college basketball these days, you see so many players leaving early for the nba and the talent is more spread out. the domination of ucla even back then was unbelievable. they went perfect twice in this run, something else you will never see. i couldnt imagine anything like this happening in any team sport these days. not with the yankees, patriots, or anybody.

simply unbelievable! applaud wooden for this accomplishment as you will never see anything close to it again. tiger may win 20 tourneys in a row one day, and federer just went nuts, but in a team sport it wont happen

It's certainly the toughest college basketball accomplishment to match...and it never will be matched.

Duke has probably been the best year-in, year-out recruiter in college basketball the last 15-20 years. They put together two straight titles, but that was it. Lots and lots of "final fours", but only back to back titles one time.

Of course, that's the goal of a lot of schools now...to get to the "sweet 16", the "elite 8" or the "final 4"... those UCLA players would have considered themselves utter failures if all they did was get to the final four without winning it all.

Even if the Gators repeat, anyone out there think they can win the next five more in a row? No way.

Seven straight titles will never be matched.

UCLA's streak will never be broken until the rules change, when they dominated freshmen couldn't play on the varsity and had to adjust to college life. And you couldn't go to the NBA until your 4yrs of eligibility were up, so you knew what was in your program and had these players for the full 4yrs. In todays game you would have to have 7 great years of recruiting and the players would have to develop immediately and when they did, they would go to the NBA the very next year. That's a hard way to win 7 Championships in a row.......!!!!!!

Even some of the best coaches today are struggling under the current system (Coach K, Bobby Knight, Lute Olson)

This streak will be hardest to be broken for many reasons. At that time there were less teams in the tourney, Coach Wooden was not only a fantastic coach he was the best recruiter in the country, and UCLA's bench was better than 90% starting lineups in the country at that time. Today with the balance is one of the reasons it will not be broken. Second players dart to the NBA and do not stay to get their degree and finish their college career.

The 88 wins in a row might be even harder, particularly in this day and age of parity. Think about it- you have to win almost three years in a row. When you consider we've gone 30 years without a team going undefeated- and remember that includes NCAA tournament games. Seven in a row is also hard, but I think 88 is a much tougher task.

Of course. It is so much harder to get away with recruiting violations like UCLA did back then. John Wooden knew how to "take care" of his players if they signed a letter of intent, and nowadays there is too much scrutiny on the recruiting trail. Just as hard is going to be their 84 game winning streak. Plus with great players always leaving early now, neither of these records will be broken.

Definitely. In an era where getting recruits is as tough as ever and getting a player to stay in college after his freshman year I would say it would be downright impossible to break this record.

Yes because basketball is a growing sport and good players are going all over the place...also it will be tough because the realllyy good players are leaving before their senior years.
