not for just pads!...hell that price should have included new rotor and rebuild on the calliper

Youd have to look carefully at the invoice.

The disks may have been turned to true them up and deglaze them (this is the way things should be done), a calliper may also have been rebuilt, new brake fluid may have been put in the system. If any of these were done in addition to the pads then the bill is in the reasonable territory.

If only the pads were changed then it seems high to me.

Your 'friend' got duped. First of all, brakes pads normally come in sets of four. So, the dealer owes you two pads.

Secondly, like other guys pointed out here, your grandmother could do a brake pad job. If you can change a flat tire, you can do a brake pad job. Pull the wheel off, take off the old pads, put on the new ones, and put the wheel back on. About 15 minutes or less per wheel.

In my view it is because I do all my own car work. Never take my car to the mechanic. Brakes pads at most will cost you 60 dollars for a set of fronts (if you getting premium pads). I'm sure they used like some al-chepo pads and the rest is labor. Al-cheapos will run you like 14 for a set. But for a mechanic to do it for front i would say around 100 is reasonable.

it depends on the service they provided. Hopefuly they turned your rotors in this service and bled the whole brake system.

It's not uncommon to pay this much depending on the service. Plus you probably have some sort of warranty depending on the place you went.

Dealer..... good price for them. If you bought the parts for like $20, then installed yourself... total bill... $20..... so the dealer got their moneys worth.

If they also refaced the front rotors...as they should have....then that is about right. if they did NOT reface the rotors....your friend was overcharged
